Skinboosters
With over 5.5 million treatments and 25 years of clinical experience, Restylane Skinboosters are the longest standing and most studied Skinboosters Worldwide. They are the only stabilised (chemically-crosslinked) Hyaluronic acid Skinboosters currently available, which means that results generally last longer than other Skinbooster products currently on the market.
Restylane Skinboosters consist of a stabilised Hyaluronic acid gel, which is clinically proven to deliver skin hydration and improvements in skin structure by gradually improving elasticity, roughness and reducing the appearance of fine lines and other imperfections such as acne scars. Restylane Skinboosters can be used in a number of areas on the face, neck, décolletage and hands.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring complex sugar molecule; found in abundance in the body. 50% of the body’s HA is found in the skin, where it plays an important structural role. It supports collagen and elastin; two vital structural protein components, which provide skin with its strength and elasticity. HA also has a high affinity for water and so its other role is in providing hydration to the skin. Unfortunately, as we age, our skin produces less collagen, elastin and HA. The depletion of these structural components leads to the visible signs of aging including skin quality changes and dehydration.
Restylane Skinboosters can help to prevent, improve and restore many of these skin quality changes by replacing HA that has become naturally depleted from the skin as we age. The HA in Restylane Skinboosters is chemically crosslinked using Non-Animal Stabilised Hyaluronic Acid (NASHA) technology. NASHA technology results in a highly purified form of HA with minimal chemical cross-linking and utilises the molecule’s natural entanglement to maximise skin hydration and improvements in skin integrity. This means that the end result is a Hyaluronic acid product that is more biocompatible than many other HA products but is also broken down more slowly and so the results last longer.

FAQs
+ Am I a suitable candidate for Restylane Skinboosters?
Pregnancy and breast-feeding are absolute contraindications. We would also avoid offering this treatment to women who are trying to conceive. Treatment is also contraindicated in the following situations:
- Patients with infection or inflammation at the proposed site(s) of treatment.
- Patients with a known allergy or hypersensitivity to Skinboosters.
- Anyone who is allergic to bee or wasp stings may be sensitive to the HA dermal filler dissolving agent (hyaluronidase). Hyaluronidase is only used rarely in the event that Restylane Skinbooster requires removal. Dr Neale can discuss this further with you if you do have an allergy to bees or wasps.
- Treatment with permanent dermal filler at the site of proposed treatment.
- An existing permanent implant or previous facial surgery or trauma.
- Patients who are prone to lumpy or raised (keloid/hypertrophic) scars.
- Certain blood clotting disorders such as haemophilia and thrombocytopenic purpura.
- Certain medication such as immunosuppressive medication which may increase the risk of infections or foreign body reactions.
Cold sores are not a contraindication unless present at the time of treatment. Cold sores can sometimes be triggered by Skinbooster treatment in the area where you are typically affected by them. If you are prone to cold sores, Dr Neale may suggest taking a course of antiviral treatment before having Restylane Skinboosters.
+ Where can Restylane Skinboosters be used?
Restylane Skinboosters can be used on multiple facial and body areas to deliver skin improvement including:
- Forehead
- Crow’s feet
- Upper and lower cheeks
- Jawline and chin
- Accordion cheek lines
- Perioral wrinkles (wrinkles around the mouth)
- Neck
- Décolletage
- Hands
+ Are Restylane Skinboosters a type of dermal filler?
Restylane Skinboosters are similar to dermal fillers in so far as they are both hyaluronic acid-based. However, Skinboosters are designed to be placed in the deeper layers of the skin or just below the skin with the goal of improving skin quality and hydration. Unlike fillers, they are not volumising and will not change the shape of your face.
+ What happens during a treatment?
Small volumes of Restylane Skinbooster are placed in the deeper layers of the skin or just below the skin using either a needle or microcannula. Multiple facial and body areas can be targeted depending on your individual skin concerns and following a holistic aesthetic assessment.
+ Is the treatment painful?
Some people experience some minor discomfort from the procedure. The product contains a local anaesthetic agent which helps to reduce any discomfort. Local anaesthetic cream can also be applied if required.
+ Are Restylane Skinboosters safe?
Restylane Skinboosters consist of a gel containing hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring complex sugar molecule. It is therefore a safe treatment, however, as with all injectable aesthetic treatments, there is a risk of side effects; the commonest of which include:
- Redness in the treatment areas, which can last 1-2 hours up to 24-48 hours after which, it should settle quickly.
- Swelling which is typically present immediately after treatment and often increases over the first 24 hours and then resolves over 2-3 days.
- Bruising which may take 7-10 days to settle. Larger bruises or haematomas are less common and may take 2-3 weeks to resolve.
- Tenderness over the treated areas may last for up to 2 weeks.
+ Less common complications include:
- Superficial lumps caused by accumulation of the Skinbooster product. This occurs more commonly on the neck and décolletage where the skin tends to be thinner. Treatment may require dissolving the product.
- Puffy eyes if product is placed in the cheek or around the eyes. This generally resolves within a few days but sometimes can take up to two weeks.
+ Rare complications include:
- Infection
- Allergic reaction is extremely rare.
- Vascular occlusion is caused by partial or complete compression or blockage of a blood vessel caused either by a blood clot or Skinbooster product. This is again extremely rare.
+ When will I start to see results?
There are two Restylane Skinbooster products each containing different concentrations of hyaluronic acid and varying in their particle size. Product choice depends on your individual skin characteristics and the area being treated. The recommended treatment protocol recommends 3 treatments 2-4 weeks apart depending on the product used followed by a maintenance treatment every 4-6 months.
Most patients notice some initial improvement in their skin appearance following the first treatment, however, optimum results are generally seen after the third treatment.
+ How long do the results last?
Improvement in skin tone, texture and hydration improve gradually over time. You will see the full benefit following three treatments each 2-4 weeks apart. A top-up treatment is then recommended after 4-6 months. Results generally last 9-12 months.
+ How much do Restylane Skinboosters cost?
- 1 syringe (1ml) £150
- Course of 3 treatments (3ml) £400
